i am a new mom and i am so confused. i feed my son with similac, the 2once that is already made that comes from the bottle not the tin.

i warm it in a cup, like put the bottle inside a cup full of hot water , warm it then give it to him.

sometimes he finishes it and sometimes just few sips.

i then change it( the remaining one ) in to his feeding bottles and keep it in the fridge. i change the nipple too when feeding time comes after re-warming it
someone just told me that once the milk has been warmed i cant keep it in the fridge but rather throw it away.

i find out that i waist so much already,, why cant i transfer the remaining one inn to a clean bottle and warm it later.?

please help me

I think it would be more economical if you used simulac powder, its easy to make and probally less expensive in long run. I am mother of 3, 10yrs, 8yrs, and 2yrs, so I've had the experience. I was always told not to re-heat formula as well, I think it has to do with bacteria levels that occur when you heat the product, which is a natural occurance, but when you re-heat, you compound that bacteria and it might reach unsafe levels. I know its frustrating, newborns do waste a lot of food at first, they are just learning how to suckle and its a lot of hard work for them, they get tired. That's why its important to offer food every 2 or 3 hours, even if they only eat an ounce or two, they will get more proficient at sucking the bottle and eat more and more as weeks go by. If you feel your baby is just not eating, wont eat for over 4hrs or sleeps right away after feeding starts, thump the bottom of their little foot, not too hard, just enough to make them wake up and eat. Keep in close contact with your doctor, talk to them about your concerns, no matter how silly you think question might be. First time mom with a newborn at home is a scary time, its ok to call your doctor and ask any and every question and concern you might have. Dont worry, you'll get more comfortable as the weeks go by. Dont feel bad if you feel like your doing a bad job, its gonna take time to feel like you and your baby are bonded not just the nice lady that changes my diapers. Good luck! You can do it! Try to sleep when baby is sleeping, lack of sleep can really depress you. If you feel really bad, it might be post partum depression, its real, and you arent a bad person if you get it. If you get overwhelmingly sad, or feel out of control, call your doctor or mom, or friend or anyone! All us moms know how you feel, welcome to the club!

Baby has bacteria in his mouth, and once he suckles the bottle, he is introducing bacteria into the formula. It is then contaminated, and because the formula doesn't have much in the way of preservatives, the bacteria will multiply very quickly.
Whoever told you that is absolutely correct, in fact it probably says so right on the bottle of formula.
If you are concerned about money, and your doctor approves it, you could switch to a powdered formula. Powdered formula isn't sterile, so babies who are premies or immunocompromised for some reason, can't have it sometimes, but for the most part, it is perfectly safe. Your pediatrician will be able to tell you if you can use that kind.

Good luck, and congrats on your new little bundle of joy!!

As your son is feeding, some of the saliva from his mouth gets back into the bottle. That introduces bacteria into the formula. Then it begins to multiply. By the time its sat in a bottle for the two hours until the next feeding its multiplied quite a few times and there's a much higher concentration of bacteria, and you don't want your son consuming that.

A better idea is to pour what you think he won't finish out of the bottle before you begin your feeding. Then, if he does finish it all and wants more you can add more into the bottle.

I know that it is hard being a first time parent. But you should never save milk that the baby didn't drink. Always make new formula. If you want to start to use formula from the tin just keep warm water in a separate thermal and use it as you go. You are going to waist a lot of formula right now as he gets older he will eat more. If you are lactating give him some of your breast milk, during one feeding and then formula on the next. if he doesn't want to latch on pump out your milk and freeze it. Then 30 min before his feeding take it out of the freezer and then run it under hot water. That will help you a little with the formula.

once you warm it, bacteria begins to grow. warmed formula should be used within 1 hour, or thrown out. if you're concerned, you should try the powdered formula and mix as you need it. that will definitely save you money.
