My mom has a drawer in her dresser where she keeps important papers, some jewerlery, etc.

Today, she asked me to go in her dresser (she wasn't home) to see if an important papers was in there. Well, as I was searching I came across an old picture frame. It was my picture frame w/ an engraving of me and my ex boyfriend's name and a picture of us.

I broke up with his kid over 3 1/2 years ago (high school/college boyfriend). When I moved back home from college this year, I cleaned out my room. I got rid of a lot of stuff that he gave me, cards, etc. I told my mom to just get rid of the picture (she was helping me clean)

Well, I guess she didn't. Why on earth would she still have this picture. I've been broke up with him for a long time and I've been dating someone else for 3 years.

This makes me seriously uncomfortable. In all honesty, I don't believe in having pictures of past boyfriends. They are ex's for a reason.

It might be that the frame was special and she had a hard time parting with it. The picture or the information might not be the thing, but it could be she received the frame from an elderly relation that has passed on before the breakup and can't part with the frame or emotion tied to it. The picture could be incidental and not part of the issue at all. Most "adults" don't see our childrens past loves as anything special. Note I said most and am not trying to include the world here.

Let me put it this way. When you get older you'll want to look back on your childhood and teenage years and reminisce. Without those photos you won't be able to. I threw away all the pictures of ex-girlfriends including my prom pics. I have nothing to look back to... When you grow up, you'll know what I mean. Mom did nothing wrong by keeping it.

Well because in time you may want to look back and realize that you get so defensive when you get a new boyfriend and its nice to look back when you get older. As long as it is in the faith of nostalgia then whats the harm. So your mom realises this and you dont..no big deal. You would have thanked her maybe years later.

Because she knows that in 30 years, you'll think it's funny to see that instead of acting like you are now.

You are in the picture so she might be keeping it for that reason.
