I hate to tell you this but WEP 128bit encryption has been HACKED !!! my friend. It is and has been outdated and now useless for several years. The current is WPA and WPA 2 which are 256bit encryption. I have just seen in the news that approxiamately 41 percent of USA wireless is still on WEP. The WPA Upgrade was released by Microsoft through Windows XP and Windows Updates for devices/networks several years ago now.

So the short answer is that if you log on with WEP encryption it is the same as logging on with no encryption at all. I have an older Windows CE 3.0 Pocket PC 2002 Windows Mobile Computer with WEP on a D-Link Wireless 802.11b Flash Modem and was already to start up my Philadelphia Earthlink Municipal city-wide 802.11b/g network subscription when I found out WEP was hacked in the internet news channels.

Although I have a 'sniffer' - (no not the one to find a hotspot, bu the one to detect a rogue piggybacker on my connection that may attempt ID Theft) and also the "key generator" which will quite more effectively shoot numerous keys like a broadband static ip address gatling gun (civil war machine gun) and a real time antivirus scanner and more ---- I still would not dare to log on with it anymore. Unfortunately my model could not be upgraded to the later Windows Mobile 2003 ROM upgrades and higher which do support WPA. Too bad and there is now the "cross-over" threats whereby the malware can be sent through PC to infect PPC (Personal Computer / Pocket PC).

So WEP ? forget it so you are not 'weeping' over an ID Theft !!!!!

Type this in a search engine ..... "WEP hacked"

Shared key or automatic (depending on router manufacturer) with WPA security, it's in your router User Manual.
