Derek and the Dominoes - a band that featured Eric Clapton - did the Top 40 electric version in the 70s.

Only 2 covers have been done of Layla and Dylan was not one of them....John Fahey in 1984 and smooth jazz guitarist Larry Carlton.....The Allman Brothers(with Warren Hayes on vocals) have performed it at concerts, but other than that, Clapton is best known for his song he wrote for his then wife Pattie Boyd.
