no, this is not a question on dating, but how did the sadie hawkins dance get its name? I was just curious, because I know very well what it is from my history, but I have no idea what it means.

Sadie Hawkins was a character in a comic strip named "L'il Abner". (Probably before your time.)
November 15th is Sadie Hawkin's Day in Dogpatch wnen the single women chase the men.
Most high schools have these type of dances where the ladies ask the men instead of the regular way.

Sadie Hawkins is named after a person I guess. A lot of high schools in the country have Sadie Hawkins dances, and each school can choose a different name for the dance. My high school, the Sadie Hawkins dance was called Swirl. The rival high school (there were actually two, but the one in the next town over was the bigger rival) called their dance the Sadie Hawkins dance. Sadie Hawkins was named after someone (fictional or real) who chased after men, and had a day named for them. Now high schools across the country have dances late in the fall semester (November or December) or early in the spring semester (January or February).

The Sadie Hawkins dance is named after the Li'l Abner comic strip character Sadie Hawkins. November 15 was Sadie Hawkins day, when the unmarried women of Dogpatch got to chase the bachelors and marry the ones they caught. In America this caught on quickly and evolved into a dance where the women got to invite a man of their choice.

The Sadie Hawkins dance is a dance that 1. I NEVER went to, and 2. If I did, I'd have to go alone, becuase no woman in the entire world would give me a chance in hell.
