My Mum knitts lots and I want to get her funky knitting needles for Christmas as she saw them in a magazine and really fancied them. She has unfortunately recycled the magazine so I can't even look at that. Would really apprecaite any websites or any info about this! Thanks.

any store that specializes in yarn and knitting should have them. I'v seen them with lights on the end or bamboo which they say is good because they are lighter to work with . I'm giving you a link to see what we have here in Canada but I'm sure if you check your phone directory you will find lots of places, after all knitting started in UK before we had it here. You are a very thoughtful daughter, I hope you find what you are looking for. Look under knitting supplies U.K. I found one below ,but there are lots more.

You also can buy some basic bamboo needles and clay from a craft store. Roll the clay into a small pea sized ball and stick it on the end of the needle. Take it off and decorate it with other colors of clay. Bake the clay according to the directions on the box and then hot glue the baked clay balls to the end of the bamboo needle. Viola, unique needles.

knitpicks.com had some really interesting wooden needles that were in layers of colors- they were made with birchwood.

I wouldn't waste my time with chain-type stores trying to find interesting needles- they don't cater to hard-core knitters and the more unique stuff. You'll want to find a yarn store dedicated to knitters/crocheters or an online catalog.

They are sold at a lot of different places, including craft stores, like Michael's and JoAnn Fabrics, or stores like WalMart, Kmart, and Target.
Hope this helps!!!
