An hour late for curfew is pretty late. And one shot is still drinking, even if it doesn't do anything.

You didn't come home when you said you would; you drank (that's what "one shot" is...) and I assume you're under age. You got your car taken away... Suggests that you had a shot and drove a little over an hour later.
You didn't even call and say anything. No wonder they freaked.
First - some states have a "zero tolerance" for teens. If you are underage, ANY alcohol on the breathalyzer means you lose your license and get charged. You're not going to read "zero" just and hour hfaterwards.
Second - you went to a party where there was alcohol, sufficiently unsupervised that they were giving drinks to underage kids like you. Your parents' concern is that tennagers 9 not you) do stupid things when drunk, that they may regret later if they live. Alcohol loosens inhibitions, so kids do things that their better judgement would tell them "no" most of the time. That's when boys don't listen to girls saying "no" and "stop". That's when kids pile into a car and let someone drive them whoi's had too much. And so on...
Third - maybe 11:30 is to early. BUT... you couldn't follow the rules when it was supposed to be 11:30. Why should they trust you to keep to 12:30? I would suggest you have a calm talk (once they're not upset about this all) and find out when they will let you move it up to 12:30, and what you have to do in return (I.e. if you're going to a party, what kinds and where and whether you call and tell them first...). If they can't discuss that calmly, then maybe they're in denial that their little princess is growing up...

Your parents, but for a good reason.
Even one shot is drinking. Plus, what would have happened if you were on your way home, and in an accident? Your parents have the right to worry. They want you to be safe. You are their child, their, if you will allow me to say, baby. They only want what is best.
I also was about to agree with you. Parents seem strict. However, given the circumstances, I have to say that it was fair. I am coming from this by two sides. As a concerned reader, and a grown up, mature, human being. Remember-we all make mistakes, we all lose track of time. Also, your parents just care...they only want the best for you. I hope this helped.

I must side with your parents. If you were missed curfew by a couple minutes, that is more understandable, but you walked in an hour late and I would assume you didn't tell them you would be late. And one shot does more to you then you think. Even one shot can damage you. Your liver processes alcohol very slowly so it stays in your system a long time damaging your organs every second it is in your bloodstream. Keep in mind that it is also illegal because your underaged. If you would've gotten hurt ot hurt someone else, your parents would be liable because they are responsible for your actions until you turn 18. You may not understand now, but you will when you have kids and THEY come home an hour late with alcohol on their breath.

Erica: you're not exactly the perfect role model for teens.
You were an hour late and 11:30 is already a good curfew. Stop making excuses that it was just one shot because drinking is drinking. And you're lucky you even have a car.

You won't realize until later that you are very lucky to have parents that care about you enough to ask where you were and what you were doing. Although they may have over-reacted a bit (a month is a bit much), you should sit down and have a calm conversation about perhaps extending your weekend curfew. Point out that you were honest about having a shot, and tell them you want to continue being honest without worrying about harsh repercussions....

i agree with u. 1 shot doesnt do anything 2 u and 11:30 is very early. talk 2 them and say u didnt drink anything. not even a shot (even though u did). next time u drink, eat food after u drink or bring mints after drinking and eat a mint.

you have to see it from their side first.
first of all, not many kids get cars in high school so you're pretty lucky. second, not many peoples' parent care enough to stay up and wait on them.
(pay close attn to that.)
your foks care about you and don't want you in trouble, that's all! and listen to yourself--you said PEOPLE AROUND YOU were drinking, which would make your parents automatically question your judgement. why would you be around them if they're getting wasted? so in their heads, they're thinking "she must be getting wasted too!!!"
and yeah 11.30 is pretty early but nothing's open at 1 am but legs. (catch my drift?)
i know you're probably frustrated with them but don't take it so serious...they love you.
in lots of cases it's the opposite; a mom or dad is out all night EVERY night drinking and the kid is left at home wondering why the hell their parent can't act like a parent.

I think you should have at least called and told them you were going to be a little late. Parents worry way to much sometimes but i guess sometimes it could be for the best.

You think your parents are strict...hahaha that is hilarious,I know parents who would have sent their kids to boot camp for something like that.Get over it,and one shot of a drink(depending on what kind it was) equals to a beer.
