I know these aren't all 'crimes' but...
* My dad was an alcoholic.
* He threatened to kill my Mum whilst screaming down the payphone (the metal cord of which was wrapped around my Mum's neck) to the police that they'd "better come quick".
* He assaulted a police officer.
* He used to beat my Mum up regularly.
* He punched her in the stomach when she was 17 weeks pregnant, and caused her to miscarry.
* He threatened to burn our flat, and had all our belongings in the middle of the room ready.
* (Then we moved away when I was 4)
* He took epilepsy pills and drank alcohol - not recommended - and then went a bit crazy. The police came to get him, and he smashed the back door window, the back window, and then tried to smash the back door off the police car.
* He tried to commit suicide.
* And then he died two weeks later from alcohol poisoning.
I know they weren't all crimes, and that's just the basics (I don't really get told all that much, even though I'm 18 now), and although he never went to prison for any of it (apart from maybe a night in a cell now and then) it pretty much ruined our family - my Mum and I had to live in a women's hostel for six months when I was 3, and then in a B&B for 6 weeks until we could get a council house (in the days when people could actually get council houses) with me (then 4) and my brother (6 months). He (my Dad) was pretty messed up and could have ended up being anything - a murderer, arsonist, etc.
The worst crime that has been committed against a member of my family - my Nana's brother was beaten up and then either fell (due to his injuries) or was pushed down some stairs - basically murdered (but the person who did it got let off!).

My Father was an armed robber, he escaped from jail when I was 2 and was on the run for the rest of his life, we left England just before he was due to go on trial in the early 1970's and never returned, he died recently in Italy. You would never have known, he was quietly spoken, wore hand made shirts, suits and shoes. Wrote more beautifully than anyone I have ever known, painted in oils and drew beautifully in charcoal. It made for an interesting childhood. My Mum's brother was jailed at 18 for murder on the night of his twin brother's stag do for stabbing a man, he took the knife off the man as he tried to stab his twin, he served 18 years and Lord Longford fought his corner, the sentence was reduced, he left jail a humbled, a timid shadow of his former self.

Murder sentenced to 12 years served 6 years (Friend)
Armed Robbery sentenced to 13 years served 9 years
(Relative)
And yes the sentencing in the Uk does not make sense

No one in my immediate family has committed a crime, that I know of. But my cousin's partner is up for murder, as we speak.

My dad was 2mph over the speed limit (he was doing 35mph in a 30mph zone, but you get 10% each way, so he would have got away with doing 33mph.) He got a £60 fine and 3 points on his licence, which had been clean for the whole time he had been driving previous to this.

My husband shot a wood pigeon which was continually flying over my washing line (with the expected results) necessitating constant rewashing of clothes.
We had 3 visits from a police constable after he was covertly videoed (because it was his second attempt at despatching same bird)
He had an hour long interview at the police station (with a Solicitor in attendance - paid for by the State), he had his fingerprints taken and received a Caution.
I was then called out into my garden by another PC who harangued me for 3/4 hour about encouraging husband to shoot a pigeon.
I complained to the local Station and had another hour long visit by a Police Inspector.
And I thought they were too busy to be able to solve real crimes!
