i know the gunpowder plot was in 1605 but when did we start celibrating it on a yearly basis?

actually fred i'm not sure when the exicution took place but guy was found by the powder barrles in 1605.

The execution of the plotters was in 1606
November 5th was designated by King James I (via an Act of Parliament) as a day of thanksgiving for "the joyful day of deliverance." This Act remained in force until 1859
They were tried when parliament re-sat in Jan 1606

In Ukraine, the tradition is part of a very old fertility tradition, going back thousands of years to the time of early agriculture. Maybe this is true in the UK as well?
