I feel that it should be shown! I don't believe in censorship by race, religion, place or thing, most churches are screaming about it here in the USA but not the priest molesting children... We say freedom of speech and expression? For who ,just a chosen few, It would do Christians well to think, with your belief system in play do you really believe in God and which God a 3 headed one, which one since you have over 3,000 different religions all teaching a different God, which God, the one that pre- existed himself before he was a baby, which one the one that said that he is the alpha and omega but yet died on a cross, which one do you have today!!!!

Being a born again atheist (formerly Catholic) it doesn't bother me at all. It's a work of fiction and has never claimed to be anything else. I enjoyed the books and I'm looking forward to the film, even if I don't agree with the casting of Nicole Kidman as Mrs Coulter.

This really winds me up!! There was outcry about "The Chronicles of Narnia" too. IT'S ONLY A STORY!!! If anyone seriously has a problem with this they should get over themselves. I have read all the books and thoroughly enjoyed them, I mean come on, it's a fantasy story right? Dust,Daemons, Talking Bears, Flying Witches hardly every day occurences (well I do have dust in my house but that's another story!!) My message is this, If you don't agree with it don't watch it! I also agree that Ms Kidman is miscast!

It isn't atheist, it's anti-clerical. God and Heaven are shown to exist in The Amber Spyglass, although they aren't much like the version the Catholic Church want you to believe in. It's Pullman's depiction of the Church as an oppressive dictatorship the fundies don't like. Diddums.

I feel totally fine about the movie. I read the whole 'Dark Materials' series, and am looking forward to watching the movie. I don't believe in the stuff that happens...I mean, dust? Armored Bears? Seriously, Wtf?
But it's just a movie, y'know? Just sit back. Enjoy it. I hate it when people get all worked up cause a book or a movie don't suit their beliefs. You know, the author/director didn't make the book/movie just for you.

It is absolutely insane that, in the year 2007, religious people get so worked up over what is nothing more than superstition.
It's like people who use lucky charms getting worked up over a film which takes the mickey out of carrying a rabbit's foot.
Absolute madness.

Just to point out...it's not an atheist film. Athiest actually refers to one who believes there is no deity. There is an obvious deity in the book, he's just not portrayed very well.

Is there anything that religious people won't kick up a stink about? It's only a film for goodness' sake.

We don't force folks into the cinema, and the TV has an off switch hasn't it, so I don't see the problem, if the church wants to protest, then do it with its feet.
