accounting question?

hurl and Associates were engaged by Northwind Petroleum as consultants on a drilling project at a fixed consulting fee of $3000 per month for a one year period, invoice 1. The 1st month's fee was recieved today.
how do u put this in the general journal ??

I presume that you work for Hurl & Associates and you're not allowed to invoice the customer until the month's over and the work has been performed. In that case, when you issue the invoice:
Dr A/cs receivable 3,000
Cr Consultancy service revenue 3,000

When the customer pays you, you:
Dr Cash 3,000
Cr A/cs receivable 3,000
