Brown paper over it and then iron it, the heat melts the chewing gum to the brown paper and hopefully all should be OK. If not and you have remaining bits get a blade and slightly cut off the tufts of the damaged carpet.

use a little lotion on the carpet to help loosen the stickiness of the gum and then use an ice cube to freeze it and pull it off. If it is smashed in to much you may have to cut the carpet strands.

Ice cubes and Goof off. Ice cubes harden the gum and can be worked out with a knife. Goof off takes a little longer but rubs it out.

put a bag of frozen peas or something frozen on it and it will cause the chewing gum to harden and then you can pick it off easy. not an ice cube as it well melt to quick and cause a mess.

Hot water will do the trick. Immerse it and let it soften then peel it off carefully. Some of the carpet strands will come off but the damage will be minimised.
