Believe it or not some babies just have a very placid and calm nature so this is not unheard of, however it is rare and could be early signs of some kind of condition. I don't know what they could do at this early stage anyway or if there is any early treatment for a condition such as autism, but it does help to just know what you are dealing with. The main thing to be concerned about is if the baby seems to be in pain or any kind of discomfort.

The fact that she hasn't cried wouldn't concern me as much as the fact that she hasn't made even a small grunt or any type of those little newborn noises. I would tell your friend that she may need to take her in and have her hearing tested when she gets a bit older.

well, the first thing you need to check is wether the baby is still alive.
If the kid is still alive, than you start checking things like does the baby hear ok. Are it's vocal cords developed correctly, does it have autism, or some other mental handicap that has not been discovered.
If none of these things are the case, perhaps it is just a very calm kid. Which is not normal. I had a kid who was very quiet for about the first 2 days, than blasted us out of the house with her loud crying every day since.
good luck

call the doctor. is she awake and looking around or always sleeping?
what happens when she is hungry or is mom feeding her before she even cries? if mom is not waiting, i know this will be really mean but make her cry. watch the time and see how long she goes before she wants a bottle to see if she cries. don't let her go more then 5 hours without eating, but see if she cries for her bottle. if she doesnt cry take her to the doctors.

my chum's toddler is between the main calm toddlers in the worldwide and not often ever cries, properly two times we've been changing him (I say we be i become extremely only looking at and handing her notwithstanding she mandatory) and he did that. the 1st time become at his 2 month dr appointment. She become changing his diaper on the chilly examination table and positioned a wipe over his privates and he began screaming like somebody become hurting him. she moved quickly up and positioned his diaper on and picked him up and he at last calmed down. the 2nd time become at her abode she become changing him on the changing table it somewhat is linked to the play pin... the only issue i ought to think of of is that it become chilly too. He hasn't achieved it returned and that i do no longer understand why he did it those 2 cases yet i comprehend it become very frightening. The pediatrician did no longer seem too in contact the 1st time he did it. He screamed worse in the process the changing than he did getting the photos!! as long as he sounds like he can breathe very properly i think of he's effective...

Although it sounds unusual, it could be that her mother tends to her needs before the baby has had the need to voice herself. She may just be a very content baby.

is she still being visited by the midwife? in the UK they do a hearing test in hospital and can request a retest any time they choose.
dont get caught up on the sofa diagnoses here - lots of babies are quiet and are absolutely fine.

I hope it isn't anything, but she should be checked out. And for heaven's sake, don't let them talk you into the shots! It causes a lot more problems than it solves.
And remember, Maher Shalal Hash Baz didn't know how to cry, according to the Bible.

She should speak to her doctor about her concerns.
It may just be that she has a very contented baby but it is better to be sure.
