They took these out of trucks a long time ago for a couple of reasons. The first was the danger of people moving from the passenger compartment to the truck bed while the truck was moving. The other was an anti-theft thing as the old sliders were easy to open and get inside.

In a word...money! It costs more to install the sliding panels than it does to use a fixed window. As an option, it obviously (costs and) takes in more money than to buy a standard (non-sliding) window, which is why it may be available as an "extra cost option". Thanks for asking. Good luck!

They are an option, (160.00) and yes easily broken into, I can open mine with a plastic knife.

I believe they are optional equipment.
