Please help Piqa (pronounced:Peak-a) who is adorable as she is rare... A silver ... well my baby! I've had her since birth. I'm single & 0 kids. She's always been an itcher. Now it is so extreme that's all you hear her doing... Has anyone had this happen? I am a super worry wart & am watching for change. She is VERY well kept... spoiled in fact! IDEAS? (Trying to avoid the Vet!)

Has she been diagnose with allergies? Call your vet and find out how much benadryl you can try for her weight. If benadryl helps stop the itch, then it is allergies, and the vet can give her an allergy shot that will last 1-3 months at a time.
If Benadryl does not work at all, then she should be checked by a vet for skin infections and/or fungus.

If you love Piqa so much, can you explain why you want to avoid the vet? It's likely she'll have far more problems in her lifetime than itching, I presume you're not planning to try avoiding the vet when she has worse problems?
There are many things that can cause itching, fleas are the most common cause. How do you know for sure she doesn't have them? It can also be mange, allergies to food ingredients or plants, or hormonal problems.
If you do in fact want an actual answer to this question you'll go to a vet. The most likely thing that will come of accepting advice from people on here, who are strangers remember, with no medical qualifications, is that you'll try an unnecessary treatment which at best will do nothing, and at worse will make things a lot worse. Remember medications are only available from vets you can't get them anywhere else.

Definitely take her to the Vet it sounds like allergies. I brush mine out everyday, and she has a prescription that I give her. My vet also gave me some fish oil capsules that I pour over her food in the morning. This helps to further moisturize her skin and decrease her itching. I spray conditioner on her each day before brushing her out as well. It has really helped with her allergies.

I own sevral Shih Tzu's and they all itch like mad because their fur easily curls up and Knots so don't worry. If it continues after their are no knots it might be a rash if not consult a vet
