OMG!!!! I hate those little buggers. I don't understand where they even come from. You won't see any for months and it could be the middle of Winter and you buy a piece of fruit like a banana and suddenly they appear as if they have been lying in wait up in the rafters or someplace just for a piece of fruit or a tomato to appear. As for getting rid of them, you have to keep all fruit and veggie peels and cores and stuff wrapped tightly before you throw it in the trash. I wash all the surfaces down with bleach spray or whatever cleaner (even dishsoap & water) is on hand. Make sure that your fruit is not going bad or turning too ripe. That's what attracts them the most. If it's soft or yucky get rid of it. If you throw it into the trash, remember to wrap it cuz it will still attract those pesky critters. Good Luck.

They breed and adapt to pesticides pretty quickly so you could wind up just chasing your tail so to speak. I know you said the house is clean, but double check some things. They like ANYthing sweet not just fruit. So make sure everything is wiped down, no choc. syrup or any other sugary substance out or spilled anywhere. Floor mopped trash emptied. garbage disposal clean. After all that try this. Cover the kitchen drain with plastic wrap so it isn't an option for them and trap them somewhere else. Take a Large glass and put some apple cider vinegar in the bottom then make a funnel out of paper to place inside the glass make sure there is a small hole at the bottom of the cone(funnel) and then tape around the top so it makes a seal The flies will be extremely attracted to the vinegar and unable to get out because of the cone. They just aren't that smart I guess but this works. Good luck they are such pains.

Get rid of the 'food' that fruit flies eat ... take the garbage in the kitchen out, and get a trash can with a tight cover. If you have fruit in a bowl that 'looks good' go through the fruit and take out the good fruit (on top) and throw the 'rotting or bad' fruit out. Put the fruit into the refrigerator for at LEAST a week and your 'fruit fly problem' should go away. The 'average life' of a fruit fly is one day ... but they can breed several times in that one day as long as they have 'food' and a warm place to lay their eggs. By removing any 'food sources' you will eventually get rid of the fruit flies ... I know, because we get them occasionally. If you have pets, also take a good look at their food dishes and the area around them... fruit flies don't always eat only fruit, and they can also breed in any pet food that is 'hiding' from your sight ... something the pet 'spilled' or hid to nibble on later. Pick it up, wash up any bits, and then don't feed the pet any more than it can eat in five minutes, then throw away or 'cover with a good seal' any that is left.

The easiest way I've found to get rid of fruit flies is to put about an inch of apple cider vinegar in a jar with some small holes poked in the lid. The flies go in, but they can't find their way out.

Put a little bowl with warm water and add some Lemon flavored dish soap..the flies are attracted to the soap and it will help kill them.
Also get rid of any old fruit you may have around your house.

Fruit flies are usually attracted to rotting fruit or other rotting foods I would go through all the fruit and other foods around your house you will probably find something rotting if you make sure that you never have rotting food then they will go away
If your in an appartement tell your neibours to do the same it ewill be helpful if you do this

there are some kind of strips that you hang in the house and they have stick stuff on them. I'm not quite sure what it is, but it is for getting rid of fruit flies and it works really well. You can find them at home depot or a hardware store.
