David was never a preacher but he was described as being a man after God's own heart. He was identified at a very young age as being the next king of Israel and was ordained by a prophet. David was the youngest of 8 sons and he was a shepherd boy. he loved the Lord and he went to see the battle between the Israelites and the Philistines and it was then that he became angry because the mascot of the Philistines, Goliath, was a giant and he we taunting the Israelites by blaspheming the Lord. David went down to the brook and choose 5 smooth stones and placed them in his shepherd's bag and then went up before Goliath. He knew the Lord was with him so he was not afraid. He slew Goliath and this totally demoralized the army of the Philistines who fled with the Israelites in hot pursuit. Why did David take 5 stones from the brook? Because he knew that Goliath had 4 brothers and he thought that he might have to deal with them too. Now that's faith!
