surprises are cool but I tell my grown children things I want. you can only have so many things and children tend to stick to the same gifts they bought when they were younger. like Bath and body works items. man I had so many I had to give lots away and said no more. be careful what you say you like or love. I just want them to know what I need rather than want and I ask them to give me a list as I did when they were younger. they knew they would get one of the big items for sure and then maybe others. I too have a hard time keeping secrets when it comes to telling what I bought someone. in fact they usually get it early and I say Ok this is an early b-day or Christmas etc gift. that way cost me more money as then I still buy gifts when the day arrives LOL

I like surprises too, like someone remembering something I mentioned wanting 6 months ago,but then again,if I know the person buying me something isn't a very good shopper I will give them many ideas to chose from, just to help them out..>=)

I like both.
However, whenever someone asks for a suggestion and I mention the name of a book or recording, I'll end up getting a shirt. And an even easier suggestion, a gift card [I love gift cards], will likewise result in something somewhat odd.
But no matter how strange [or even hideous] the gift, we of course have to use some acting skills and express our sincere appreciation. :-)

Both - I love surprises but only if they are "suitable" (ie something I would have wanted if I'd known) but I'd rather people ask than go and get something that would be useless to me ( like gold jewelry that I'm allergic to)

I asked for 4 shirts, a jacket, a pair of boots, a movie, a cd, and a couple of books. I informed my dad he could desire to %. which to get me, and that i'm uncertain he's getting me each and every thing. Then my mom have been given me a kindle and a few books for it, a boardgame, and a few pajamas.

Hmmm it really depends who is buying me a gift. If it's my good firend...then sure go ahead and surprise me, because you know what i like and don't like, and what i need and don't need, but for example my brothers need a list or every single Christmas/birthday they will buy me the same thing...or something i will never use or like.

hm, asked b/c i'm sure the person would want to give you something that they'd know you'd like.
i feel that way - i'd rather have an idea of what they want so i wont disappoint them.
however, i like to suprise friends when i know they'll love it, but usually if it's something they love - the occasion is a suprise as well.
