It is a State in Greece with capital Thessaloniki. Don't you think it would be funny to call a country "Paris" or "New York", for example? How will you feel about it and the confusion?
That's why we do not like another country to be called like our State name for thousands of years, Macedonia

The questioner is right, actually. The word Macedonia and the Vergina star symbol are patented by Greece, although Fyrom is not recognising the "patent". We should indeed claim rights!

Macedonia is in Greece as always and it covers almost the same area as the ancient Greek Kingdom of Macedon, while FYROM borders with the north of Macedonia, it was part of Yugoslavia (Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia - FYROM), it's a Slavic/Albanian state and occupies a tiny part of the ancient Greek Kingdom of Macedon.

Macedonia is a geographical and historical region of Greece in southeastern Europe. Macedonia is the largest and second most populous Greek region. Its territory covers most of the ancient Kingdom of Macedon (9/10), including the birthplace of Alexander the Great.
After Alexander’s death, Macedonia followed the fate of the rest of Greece. It became a Roman province, later a Byzantine province, it was occupied by the Ottoman Empire and finally it became part of the independent Greek state in 1912. It borders 3 Balkan states, Albania, Bulgaria and FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia).

FYROM is a Slavic - Albanian state (about the 2/3 are of Serbian and Bulgarian origin, but under heavy brainwashing identifying themselves as “ethnic Macedonians” and 1/3 are Albanians) with a Slavic language almost identical to Bulgarian, written in the Cyrillic script like all the Slavic languages do. Its territory covers just 1/10 of the ancient Kingdom of Macedon. That state unfortunately attempts to steal the history and culture of Macedonia like it belongs to it by using -and actually monopolizing- the terms ‘Macedonia’ and ‘Macedonians’, even if it has no historical, cultural or linguistic relation with ancient Macedonia and Macedonians what so ever, since the Slavs descended the Balkan peninsula between the 6th and 8th centuries AD, hence some 1500 years after the establishment of the ancient Kingdom of Macedon.

There are two Macedonias.
The one is Greek Macedonia were Alexander the Great was from,
and the second is a country in the Balkans that emerged from Yugoslavia. The country is called republic of Macedonia and it is a Slavic country, that's why it was part of Yugoslavia.

Where were you on your geografy and history classes?
Geografy and history lesson that you lost: Macedonia is a country on the north of Greece. That is the country of Aleksandar the Great. The country with the sun of Verfina. The county of joy and happines. Unfortunatly, the Greeks stole our happines in 1913 when they took a big part of our great country called Aegeon Macedonia. They killed many Macedonians there and took their homes and lands. Then it began the period of suffering and tears for our people. Greek prisons were full of inocent macedonians only because thay claimed as Madeonians and speak their mother language-Macedonian language. Till 1988 in Greece was forbiden the word Macedonia. And then suddenly the cute greeks (as you) claimed that Macedonia is their patent. And just to inform you that your fiend US is our friend too, which call us MACEDONIA

FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia) covers about 1/10 of the ancient Macedonia.

God damn it!!!How can you speak this nonsence? For how long?Have you no shame? The word "Macedonia"was forbiden in Greece only `till some 20 years ago...and now they clame that they have the right for the name...Let me tell u something:-your greek antsisstors are rolling over in their graves now.
Macedonia-their sworn enemy..Macedonians-the barbarians...Philip II The Macedon, the man who defited Greece...all this is clamed to be Greek nowdays-How paranoic....
U see, there is a difference between us...We know that Macedonian land was given to Greece in 1912.We know that it was given to Bulgaria,Albania and Serbia (yugoslavia)too...Macedonians that lived at the teritory which was given to Greece in1912 were ethnicklly clensed in 1930`s..moved to Hungary, former SRRR,Vojvodina,Romania,Poland...their properties were taken and forbidden to come back home...ONE MILLION MACEDONIANS...This all happened only less than 80 years ago...Name me ONE SINGLE Greek that is born in "Northen Greece" before 1912...
Any way...we got ourselfs the part from Serbia, time will tell if whole Macedonia will unite again...the truth is on our side, but one thing is clear...WE WILL NEVER GIVE OUR SACRED NAME THAT WE CARRY FROM OUR PAST-NEVER..SO DONT YOU "FYROM" ME

The nerv some people in the world have...you are given something that doesent belong to u and above that u dissrespect that in anyway that is humanly and unhummanly possible...And this is how u represent your Greeck antient culture...shame on you.Your antsisstors are ashamed of you too

Macedonia is not absolutely Greek name, means mother domain in all Slavs languages.
More than 20 town in US have name Macedonia.
There are regions in Europe, Balkan Peninsula, Pirin and Aegean Macedonia and one country Republic of Macedonia. In past tree parts was one Kingdom of Macedonians. In this time children of Alexander the Great are mayor in Republic of Macedonia, in Aegean and Pirin, baned from Aegean in Serbia, Ukraine and all over the World
Theory that Slavs come in 6 century is wrong, Archaeological evidences show that Slavs for mother domain have Balkan Peninsula.
Have a nice weekend and enjoy.
