For example: if the 2008 Dodgers face the Yankees in the 08 WS, then Joe Torre would be facing the team he previously managed.

Yup. Besides Torre (mentioned above), I can find:

- Casey Stengel, who managed the Dodgers from '34-36 and faced them in the World Series as Yankees manager in 1949, '52, '53, '55, '56, and '59. He also managed the Braves from '38-43, and faced them in '57 and '58.
- Bobby Cox, who faced the Toronto Blue Jays (who he managed from '82-85) in the '92 World Series with the Braves
- Joe McCarthy, who managed the Cubs from '26-30 and faced them as Yankees manager in '32 and '38.

Well you mentioned one already in your question.

Joe Torre managed the Yankees to WS wins over the Braves in 1996 and 1999 and over the Mets in 2000.

Torre managed the Braves from 1982-1984 and he also managed the Mets from 1977-1981.

(I am sure there are other similar scenarios.)
