eg Germany actually gets more trade from the US than we do.

Not to mention they've avoided the Iraq quagmire and becoming Al Qaeda's top target outside the US.

Firstly i do not think we are the lapdogs of the USA!

We have the same basic world view, and that is why we are so often in general agreement with the USA.

After all, America is an offshoot of Britain, Linguistically, Historically, Culturally, Socially, and still to a great extent Ethnically. Note, the Australians and Canadians are or have been involved in Iraq and Afghanistan too!

Germany has no international clout politically or militarily and its economy is in trouble, the French have been seen as resentful and petulant, jealous of the English speaking powers, and we have a stronger economy than them.

And you are wrong about terrorism in Germany and France. both countries have foiled numerous terrorist plots on their own soil.

Islamic extremists use Iraq as an EXCUSE, to peddle their vile doctrine.

Being half Iraqi, i find it sick that these Pakistanis and Bangladeshis in the UK are up in arms over Iraq. It is NOT their country, they know NOTHING about Iraq and DO NOT care about it either. And nor do Al Qaeda!

Hopefully well get Iran next!

Questions asked on Yahoo UK also show up on Yahoo US. So you should still always specify that you're asking about the UK.

Anyway, if you're doing less trade with the US than Germany is, it's probably just because your economy is smaller. That's probably not a result of the fact that you're an ally of the US.

If you let someone else do all your fighting for you, it would be safer for you (assuming the other person did it). But it's not a very honorable thing to do.

By 'we' I take it you mean UK. I agree with the premise of your question, I think we need to be more assertive in our relationship with the United States. I can't remember the last time any British politician even implied criticism of US policy. The only example from modern history (post WWII) I can think of was Harold Wilson not sending British troops to Vietnam and he was pilloried by the left for not openly criticising the war. The UK-US is not a healthy relationship and does not benefit the UK in any way it just takes us look to the rest of the world that we are completely subservient to the US.
