How long before New York appeals?

MSG had a similar lawsuit against the NBA and lost. Also, it's in the CBA that the teams would revert to the League's brand (as do the other three major leagues) and the NHL and their lawyers did considerable research into this

LOL "...illegal cartels..."

MSG has to wait until the trial ends before they can appeal. From what I gathered in the fifth, sixth, and seventh paragraphs, the trial's still going, but what I do find curious is why the judge would be commenting on the case now before it's over. Must be a low "serious" factor involved (come on, it's just sports), because I have never seen a judge do that. I would assume it'll be...5 months from now, after all is said and done with this trial, that MSG would appeal.

The law may be on the league's side, but the NY franchise recognizes the prevailing weakness in the NHL's marketing savvy and foresight.

To date, the overwhelming majority of successful messaging campaigns have been run on a team, not league, level. This latest mandate from the NHL is critical insofar as the extent to which itjeopardizes that process.

What tools are teams left with to help reach the unique elements in their individual markets. In fact, what happens to the very voice of individuality? Perhaps there is no room for such expression in the new NHL, but assuming the league's current marketing braintrust has the vision and skill to carry the sport's message is a fool's errand.

Standardizing the teams' websites largely removes the likelihood of one or more creative concepts developing along parallel paths and that is not something the NHL can easily afford.

I would guess the NY Rangers do not allow players to pick and choose which rules they must adhere to in the CBA.
Why does MSG continually think rules are in place and should be applied to everyone but them, seeing they had the same problem with the NBA.
Even though this rule stinks of a Bettman cash grab, and was probably burried in the fine print in the CBA, it is still in there. To the best of my knowledge, the Rangers voted to accept the new CBA along with all the other teams.
It's starting to look the Rangers are taking advise from Isiah over at MSG.

I don't know, but they definitely should. It is absurd that the NHL wants to control all of the teams' websites. Every team should have an individual site. All the sites look EXACTLY THE SAME! It's boring and stale. Even though the Rangers site doesn't look too good, I still say it's the best one in the NHL because of its individuality.

I am not sure how much water their case will hold. MSG is trying to sue under the Sherman Act, which was enacted in 1890 to prohibit conspiracies, contracts and combinations in restraint of trade, and to prohibit monopolization or contracts, combinations and agreements tending to monopolize. The Sherman Act is mainly used in situations of retail (example: several states had sued George Foreman Grill Co. (Salton)because they would not let stores use discounts to sell their products.)
I believe, unless MSG can prove retail hardship, they will not win this case. Though, I am sure they will appeal.
Thanks for the article:)

I realize that it's the NHL vs NYR but who are the real faces behind this protracted pissing contest. Names??

And while you're out there LITY, what would happen if Collie Campbell had to adjudicate an incident involving his son since he now plays for the Panthers? Would he be forced to defer it elsewhere?
