We are having a satellite dish installed but the landlord does not want it attached to the house. The satellite company todl us we need a galvanized steel pole 3 1/2 inch in diameter. Nobody we have called has ever heard of one that size and honestly neither have I. The thickest we found was 2 3/8 inch. Has anyone ever heard of such thick pipe and if so where can I find it? We haev tried Lowes, Home Depot as well as ALL fo the local hardware shops.

I just called the satellite place back and even they said no idea why I was told that in my earlier call. Anythign over an inch will work. I had also been told 12 foot long post this morning but now apparently their regulations state they will not post it higher than 5 feet on a pole!! Must have just spoken with an idiot this morning.

we live in northwest Florida so we can NOT use wood LOL it would deteriorate in a matter of weeks outside. Nevermind stability during hurricanes!

You can buy a plain steel or iron pipe relatively cheap, spray it down with rustoleum, and plant it in the ground. A couple of bags of quickcrete in the hole for the pole wouldn't hurt either.
Unless you have some weird satellite provider only available in Florida, you were told so much hooey. You'd be amazed where satellite dishes can be installed!

Closest thing to 3-1/2" diameter would be 3" pipe which is 3-5/8". make sure you have whatever pipe you install, set firmly or the dish will lose its signal with windy days. Where I live, many people use 4x4 wood posts, 3' into the ground. Then a baseplate mounted on top.

When I had my satellite installed, I did not have to put in a pipe. That was part of the installation price. I had already told them that it could not be attached to the house. They brought what they needed and finished the job, no extra charges for me.
