I have recently bought a FreeAgent external hard drive. The hard drive is plug and play and so comes with no software which might include some security.

Does anyone know of a way i can password protect files on the hard drive so that they can't be accessed without the password? Or so the files are only accessible from my computer.

Most external hard-drives should give you the option for you to create a password as part of the initial installation. Read the owner manual or just click on the tutorial or help icons when you plug in your external hard drive. Choose a password and don't forget it or else your hard drive will be useless to you. I have an external hardrive and as soon as I plugged it into the USB port and the program installed, it gave me the option to create my own personalized password right away.
