Daniel,
Well, Im also a poet and I know that you can get payed for your poems. There are two really good ways, first you can submit it through the internet, but I dont know if you should because if your poem is really that good they might not publish it, and instead publish it as there own poem.
You can also get an agent, that might be pricey but it will get you somewhere. And if you do take a chance and publish it on the internet to a poetry contest you can get payed up to $10,000.00.
Hope I could help.

Afraid there isn't much of a market for poetry these days, and very little gets published.
Poetry generally gets paid less than short stories or articles, fetching from 1-to-10 cents per word for previously unpublished, unknown authors, to about 50 cents a word for more well-known writers.
About the only way to make money as a published poet is writing lyrics for music/songs. I wish I could offer some sites or help in this area -- but if you do investigate this avenue, be aware there are a plethora of scams where you end up paying big bucks for little return.

I'm not really sure but I have been thinking the same thing. I have gotten one of my poems published I just guess that I just took it as a huge honor to see one of my poems in a book.

I've had several of my poems published, haven't made a dime! LOL
Usually poets hold day jobs, I know one of my favorites is a college prof, another also writes songs, and I have my own business! LOL

Not a whole lot. But then again, that's not why poetry is written now is it mate? But, of course, you already knew that.
