Is this still a valid and relevant concept in the conservative movement or is it a euphemism for lip service to the poor?

Well for one thing, they want to force unwanted children to be born and then deny them an education and health care.

A ridiculous term made up by cowards who are scared of the liberal media so won't make a stand for real conservatism which at its roots is libertarian. Conservatives should not be supporting big government and nannying and ripping of the tax payer . It should support small government a fair tax system and individual freedom and more freedom for each state to make its own decisions.

Getting government out of your pocket for one. They take a lot of money and only part of it (a small part) goes to helping the needy. Conservatives believe the state should have more power over these issues because THEY know what THEIR citizens need. Private charities at a local level are even better. They are ran better and more of the money reaches who it needs to. Then there is the idea of creating programs to help people REALLY get off of welfare, a hand up not a hand out. If we can get the abusers off of the teat then maybe those who truly need help (like the disabled or elderly, victims of tragedies etc..) would be able to receive an amount that would truly do them some good.

It's a valid attempt to adopt and acquire the values Democrats fought for and made household words throughout the country: equality, free speech, free expression.
They finally agreed, they adopted them, they help, to the degree they are conceptually able to (not intellectually, as I am not attempting to insult their intelligence, as we have our conceptual blocks as well).
We won those battles. Now we're just mopping up.

And we're throwing it away with our embrace of socialism, anti-Republican free speech, anti-white equality, anti-Christian free expression.

That's not the fight I joined.

They extended their hand into new territory.

We bit it.

Foolish.

Political bigotry will destroy our party if we're not careful.

It's liberalism in disguise. And given the performance of that wing of the GOP, it's dead.

Time to get the GOP back to its fiscal conservative/libertarian roots.

Let me give you an example: When I drive to work in my BMW each day at the same stop light right before my office..the homeless are on the streets cleaning off car wind shields. I let them clean my window and I also give them a tip: "Get an education and then get a job".

It is alive and well. It means instead of giving someone free welfare, teaching them to care for themselves. You teach someone self respect when you empower them.

Success is obtained when individuals set goals for success and work toward it.

Allowing them to be dependent on the government only forces them into slavery to it.

Letting YOU keep the majority of the money that YOU earn.

As opposed to taking all of your paycheck and redistributing it to the guy down the street playing X-Box and not looking for a job.
