Ok, you know those little running balls that you can put hamsters in and they will run around the house? Well, is it true that their little toes can get stuck in the air cracks? If this is true, then why does the company keep making them? Its so cruel.

I have never heard of this, nor witnessed it ever with my many hamsters. The only problem I have ever had with the balls is that obviously, when they pee, it leaks out the cracks and thus gets all over.

There ARE plenty of products out there, however, that are NOT safe or acceptable for the pets they are marketed for. There is a lot of misinformation out there as well, regarding their nutrition and poorly made foods/treats containing materials known to be bad. How can companies do this? Benefit of the doubt: ignorance. Most likely reason: greed, with no one to stop them (their industry isn't as regulated like the one for human food and products).

This is why it is vital to research the products you use for your pet/feed them. In this case, the hamster ball is messy--but okay.

You have to get the right size for your hamster. If you have a dwarf hamster you want to get one specifically designed for that hamster, smaller size, smaller ball. Their toes/legs can get caught if the cracks are too big.

no they are designed to be big enough not to let the toes get stuck and yet at the same time let air in, if they made the holes any bigger than a 1.5 inches thick the majority of hamsters could escape.
