Because they are deeply hurt and find the rejection as intolerably unacceptable and a personal reflection on who and how they are. This type of person (male or female) always desires "candy" that they can't have or that is not good for them, consequently, they are never happy with who they really are and expend enormous amounts of energy in an attempt to be something that they are really not.
Rejection is seen as a failure on their part at not being what they feel they should be. It's a very painful disease that originates in shame and leads to great sorrow and eventually death.

Insecurity and injury to their ego. Some just do not understanding that they don't need to take rejection personally because a person can have a thousand reasons for not being interested in a relationship many of which do not have anything to do with who's asking.

I don't know but I've been living with it for 2 years now! The revenge part and I'm so ready to move away far far away. It is scary!

Because they don't know how to properly deal with their feelings. Usually they are raised by bad parents, who didn't teach them to deal with their disappointments in a rational way.
