Im using the computer for gaming, and miltitasking with word, napster, Internet, and a few other programs. Is the 6000+ really worth alot more?

I know the 6000+ is better... but how much better? is it worth the extra cash?

What is it that you want to do with the machine? I agree with the other post. if you are just running office apps you dont need a killer cpu. if you are running games you might be a lot better off putting the extra cash into a fast video card as this will make a lot more difference to your gaming performance than the extra cpu power. it really isnt that much extra power considering the cost premium, but ultimately it depends on what you want the computer to be able to do. a 5000 will be more than enough for most apps/internet surfing etc. go the 6000 if you need to do some really high end stuff, otherwise its probably not worth the $$

I would suggest a different alternative. Instead of getting the regular 5000+, get the black edition, and overclock it (even with stock you could overclock past 3GHZ. If you don't want to overclock though, I would say it is still worth it (the extra $50) to go with the 6000+ unless you're trying to highly budget your computer.

Should be about 5/6 of the speed.

With WEord etc, a 5000 is WAY WAY WAY more than you need, unless you run Vista
Vista after all takes as much power as you throw at it

did you search for the bench marks? thats what tells you the diffrence.

intel core 2 duo e6850 blow both those chips and the amd X2 6400+ chip. see the benchmarks.

also...

if you wait till winter the k8 chips will be phased out. k10's are in production. they are going to be crazy nanos' faster. might aswell wait anyway... and see the bench marks there. but currnetly amd is loosing ground. intel has snuck up on them and recently (last few year) has been providing a better chip
