The reality is that 90% of all art is trash. And that goes for all years and all genres: books, movies, painting... most of it is crap. For every great work of literature, there are a hundred trashy paperback novels. What makes past years look better in retrospect is the fact that, over the years, we forget about all the junk and only remember the few great films that came out that year. For instance, mention 1939 and everyone will know that "Gone With the Wind", "The Wizard of Oz" and "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" were released that year, but no one remembers such 1939 clunkers as "Adventures of the Masked Phantom" or "20,000 Men a Year". Memory is mercifully selective.

They seem more interested in "pushing the envelope" than writing intelligent plots. They want to put as much gore, sex, cussing, and whatever other junk they are going for, as possible into the film. Sensationalism sells, or so they think. The American consumers just keep spending money on the movies, so they think that is what we want to see. I have stopped going to the movies almost completely, I wish more people would do so and show Hollywood what kind of movies we want to see.

If you see the same movie over and over again eventually it will be boring. When you see lots of movies you eventually end up seeing just about every plot conceivable, so they become repetitious. add to that the fact that most movies have the same actors that you see over and over again, so its a little harder to believe the characters when you are constantly reminded that they are just actors you have seen a hundred times before and see their faces plastered on newspapers and magazines. Its overkill. new movies used to come out every now and then so were special, now they are churning them out like a sausage factory. Its a little hard to believe in some evil villain when you just saw him flogging some new deoderant on TV all smilling "buy this product, I am flogging it because I believe in it, not because they are paying me millions for a days "work".

Hollywood, as an industry, is wanting to make money.
If "Blue Cat" makes a million, "Blue Cat 2" will be made in the hope of making another million. But unless "Blue Cat 2" has something novel it won't make enough to justify it.
If you want really good films, you need to look for people who want to tell a story insted of people who want to make money.
