Well I live in Cairns and generally - open pressy's in the morning for the kids .... have a light lunch at home, spend the arvo at the beach, have dinner (I never go for the tradition whole Christmas feed, it's too over-rated) we generally have a great aussie BBQ, then onto the xxxx and Aussie wine.

It is usually notoriously hot on Christmas Day! I've just spent five Christmas Days in the UK - and this is my first one back in Oz - I'm a bit worried how I'm going to cope with no Covent Garden Christmas decorations and no cold weather!!

In the morning, we open pressies - then big lunch!! Crank up the air-con, kip, SWIM. Follow it up with Boxing Day at the beachouse, boys watch the Boxing Day Test (cricket), and we all play cards. And drink! And sweat!

You should check out thegumtree.com - I know in Sydney that on Christmas Day on Bondi Beach, there is a big party with loads of travellers (esp from the UK) - as obviously if you're away from your family at Christmas it's nice to celebrate in a special way - I'm not sure if they do something similar in Cairns or not.

Either way, get your sunscreen and hat out and head for a barbie somewhere!
Enjoy your Aussie Christmas!!

In Cairns, as cool as possible, if you are staying in a resort, probably hot and cold lunch, swim and air conditioning
