i have 2 median-large tortoises & 2 small tortoises. They eat a lot and i only give them 1 meal a day. i will be going abroad for 5 days so can they survive not eating during these days?

they are the regular tortoise with stripes on their body and an orange oval patch on each side of their head that look like their ears. i dont know whats the species but i guess people call them terrapins.

so they will survive right?

What you have are water turtles called Red-ear Sliders- not tortoises by any definition (except some common usages in Australia).

If your habitat is set up so the water will stay warm and clean, and the lights will come on at the right times while you are gone, you can leave them for a few days OK.

Give them a little more food for a couple of days, and offer them some small live fish to eat to get them used to them.

Before you go, feed them normally and drop in a good handful of fish- there will probably be some left when you get home.

Most amphibians and/or reptiles go into hibernation during cold weather, at which time they can and do go for months without eating. During this time their body functions slow to a crawl( heart rate, metabolism etc) so they do not burn calories and the stored nutrients from food will last until warm weather. However, if it they are not hibernating, they would not die in 5 days, but they would be hungry and that is sad.People can go for 5 days without eating (as long as they have water) but it would be torture. It would be much more humane to have someone feed them for you while you are away. After all, you wouldn't want to spend 5 days with no food would you?

They can go without eating for a very long time.
Some can even go without eating for years and not even loose weight!
Because out in the wild they are use to not being able to eat in severe cercomstances.
They also can store food and water extremely well.
I would belive that without eating for a few days wouldn't do anything to sever to it.
Just make sure you leave extra food out just in case they do have a dier need to eat.

hi there
ur best bet is to get a reliable neighbor to look after it .. offer some money and enough food to last them ur trip or look for a reptile boarding near ur area ... most don't cost too much.. and have the knowledge to look after them.......
if they did survive they would be very hungry and probably sick by the time u get home... hope this helps

Sounds like you have turtles not tortoises.
You should really know what you have and how to take care of it before you go off and leave it for 5 days.
You can join this group and send pictures to have it IDed.
