The pregnancy rate has steadily risen with the more "education" we give them...That being said, no, it's not working..Hand someone a pipe, show him how to smoke weed, tell him what it does and how it makes you feel, tell them not to do it,and you expect them not to try it? This logic has proven itself not to work!

No. the schools are not enough. Sometimes parents aren't even enough. OUr whole society has put sex up on a pedestal and has drilled it into our heads that sex is so awesome and the teenagers believe that they need to be doing it to. Most teenagers (especially girls) really don't enjoy it like they think that they do.....but keep saying that they do because it's the thing to do. Just look at the role modelsout there!! Britney prancing around half dressed, teen movies, etc....it's everywhere. Everytime a young celebrity preaches about how she is a virgina nd all wholesome....you find out later that it was all publicity.
Everyone need to intervene. The schools, the parents, and society as a whole. I am not a religious person but I do beleive that we need to get back to old fashioned family values where parents are married before they have kids.

Teen Pregnancy , Which is 99% without merriage bond , So no responsibility for the Father , Poor girl will suffer , and The Worst to suffer the outcoming CHILD , Born without a Father Name ,
It is A Big Big Crime Committed and Accepted by The Society ,
So please doNOT feel horribly about the raped teeange victims with babies , As unfortunately all this is according to your Society Norms ,
schools and parents BOTH can not do anything , even I guess , They Both Feel it More Horible and Equally HELP_LESS.
The Key Question to "Prevent Teenage Pregnancy" is , that ,
Are you prepared to sacrifice a Part of your Human Rights ???
If " YES " then , Schools , Parents and Church All can Help The Society ,
But I Doubt very much about your " YES ".

No. At my school, the teen pregnancy center is so overflowed with babies this year that the teachers have no room to enroll their own children - it's supposed to be a shared day care plan with the students and teachers.
By the way, original poster: You feel horribly? Your fingers are broken, then? I feel horrible about that!
Anne p - The increase in teen pregnancy has nothing to do with the increase in sex ed we give students. It's all about society's change throughout the 20th-21st centuries. It was the biggest deal if a girl got pregnant before marriage back in the 20s, so girls were generally more fearful of having premarital sex. But now, society is nowhere near as harsh on these "accidents" and in some schools there are even daycare centers, as in mine, to help the mother finish school.

Since when did it become the responsibility of the school system to prevent teenage pregnancy? I think the schools have enough problems and pressure to teach kids the basics. But I guess throwing in the pregnancy issue is ok, but it definitely should not be the responsibility or something extra for people to blame the school system on. I blame the parents for not taking the active and proactive responsibilities of talking to their kids. Those that think it's the school's responsibility only want another excuse to blame the school system. WAKE UP PARENTS, talk to your kids!!!!

I think parents are leaning too much on the school system to raise their kids for them when that is not what they are paid to do.
I think parents need to start stepping up to the plate and talking with their children to find out what they think about this topic and many others. They need to find out if their teens are thinking of getting pregnant because I can honestly say the majority of teen pregnancies are not "accidents" they are desires.
Parents need to start instilling more self respect and motivation to succeed in life in their teens. They need to be supportive of their teens decisions and make their kids aware that no matter how bad the situation they can always come to them for help. Even if it takes forever for their kids to come to them, keep letting them know that they are there.

How on earth would be it the schools job to raise a child and instill values and morals into its character?
Teenage pregnancy is an issue that starts and ends at home, with effective hands on parenting.

It is the parents job to ensure their child is educated about sex and consequences. The school plays their part but really, it is up to the parents. Parents are responsible for their children not the schools.

the schools can only do so much. the parents need to be involved too
i dont feel bad for any pregnant teen.
the ones who end up raped are usually asking for it by dressing in very short and very low cut clothes dont flaunt it if your not actually wanting what your offering.
parents need to watch their kids. know who they are with where they are going and what they are wearing
parents are more to blame than the school for teen pregnancy.
but the kids who are having sex are the ones to really blame if they listened in class and used the protection that out there it wouldnt happen. many teens believe pregnancy and stds wont happen to them and it will
sex is worth so much more when its between two people who love each other and are married
