You may as well say, "If rocks (or apple trees or tapeworms or anything else) don't make our personality, then why do you think they are there? For fun?" It's the vanity of man thinking that everything in the universe is somehow connected to him.
As far as the position of the stars and planets at our birth influencing our personality, the gravitational force exerted by the obstetrician would have a greater influence. Trying to assign a deep, personal, human meaning to things that are not understood, like celestial objects, is a natural, primitive reaction, but so is thinking that a menstruating woman is possesed by evil spirits or that a human sacrifice in the spring will make the crops grow better.

The planets are there because they formed from the planetary disk that existed 5.5 billion years ago. The inner planets formed as "rocks" because more collisions occured in the disk to form the heavier elements.
The Gas Giants formed because the collisions that formed the heavier elements at the inner system were less. "Eddy currents, magnetic lines and gravity caused the formation of the moons, asteriods and debris that exists between the planets.
Asking this is the same as asking," If you don't believe that (something) make our personality then why do you think that these things are there? for fun?
Which is so redundant! Not everything needs to be there to affect HUMANS...

Astrology is a way to explain human behavior based upon the movements of the planets. Its not wrong, but it doesnt explain everything about human behavior.

Who says they have to be there for a reason? And if those 8 planets are there for our benefit, what are the hundreds of planets orbiting other suns we have discovered there for? And what about all the billions of trillions of stars in all the galaxies in the universe along with the planets that may be orbiting them? Is it all for us? That seems like a pretty self centered way of thinking.

Is your ego so large that you think that everything in the universe must be there to affect humans? Not everything has apurpose. Some things are just there because that's how the laws of physics work.

Astronomy is a real science.
Astrology is pure hogwash. You are a fool if you believe any part of it.

Why, actually, yes I do. I really enjoy looking at the planets through my telescope. The only possible reason for their existence to to please ME, and they do it VERY well! Thanks for asking!
