because my cervix wasn't dialating. And now, Saturday, they have almost completely stopped. The medicine they gave me put me to sleep ALL day on Friday. What do I do? I am 39 weeks and 4cm dialated and 60% effaced. How can I get this labor going?!?

My non progressive contractions lasted 30 hours. I was sent home from the hospital twice. If you are not dilating, there is nothing they can do. You are in early labor and chances are, your insurance company is only going to pay for a two day stay in the hospital. Your epidurals will wear off long before you are even close to pushing if you are admitted this soon. You do not need to see a doctor, the nurses are pretty good at being able to tell when you are in active labor and need to be admitted. That is what they do everyday. All I can suggest is to call your OB and ask for better drugs. She/he can give you some pills that might help you feel better. That is what I did and it relaxed me enough to go into active labor. I had my son seven hours after I was given some pain relief. I went from 1 cm to 5 cm in that time. I hope you get to meet your baby soon. I know this part of labor sucks, I was there, I went through the exact same thing. You will meet your baby soon.

well it was either sunday or monday night i woke at 3am having contractions no less than 10 mins apart but they was all over the place i.e 3mins 3mins 7mins 4 mins 2 mins etc so set pattern but they were a little painfull compared to braxton hicks and they was also coming straight after a lower back pain each time,i thought oh gosh my baby is going to be here soon, but then after i'd took my son to nursery they stopped and all week they have been on and off like this ever since.
Ive had about 3 or 4 shows now,yet with my 1st i only had the 1 show then had him the next day,so i dont know whats going on this time.
People say have sex walk etc but its not been proven it works, ithink babies just come when they are ready,so just be patient,it wont be much longer.

I've heard walking helps and drinking castor oil. When I dialated at 4cm I was admitted. I can't believe they have not admitted you yet! I recommend doing some walking. Hope all goes well for you.. good luck!

Well, sleeping and laying down isnt going to help.

Stay active, walk, do squats.

Stimulating your nipples 20 minutes at a time works the best. I had to do that while pushing in order to have contractions and move things along- I couldnt even push because I had no contractions.

Nipples stimulation is great.

Walking can help get labour going if your body is ready and sex can do the trick too. Sperm has a similar protein in it to what they use for induction. It is not just an old wives tale. I have also heard spicy foods can help too, but not too sure if that's true or not, although some say it works!

The most effective way to induce the labour is to go and have sex. Might be uncomfortable at the moment, but the semen contains something that helps to thin out the cervix (or something like that).

Patients my dear, very soon when this is all over you will be wishing this baby was still in the comfort of your tummy lol after 6 weeks of sleepless nights lol. He/she will arrive in this world when they are good and ready and not a moment before I am afraid. Dont rush it, let nature do what it does best.
