The test probably contains a cultural bias. If you were to compare the scores of an indigenous person and other groups of people - and those people had access to the same environment, schools, culture, then those differences would probably be very slight or non-existent. In statistics, the other factors (such as not as much exposure to the tests, maybe language barriers, etc.) are called confounding variables - they interfere with the reliability of the interpretation of the data.

Also, if you look at the work of Howard Gardner - there are many different types of intelligence. It may very well be that those groups score higher on other types of "intelligence" - because their cultures (and we are talking about lots of different groups of people here so I even hesitate to make a blanket statement) might emphasize other types of thinking and relating - and so they have more practice at it.

their realm of wisdom and knowledge is different than an educational system. each culture and society are based upon what is needed to survive.

would guess that if a " white " person from the 1880 period would take an IQ test based on modern questions they wouldn't score high either.

Taking a random test with **** you have never seen before will not be easy. Firstly, speaking the language is key. Secondly, mathematics is a language. Most people do best on the puzzles because it is the only part they do not have to be taught.

If this is true [you provide no references to support your statement] then the fault is almost certainly with the IQ tests used, which can have a tremendous cultural bias.
