I have a 15 gallon with two convicts in it, they will be moving to a 55 gallon soon wlel a month or so but thir tank now has 2 incandecent bulbs in it i was wondering can i got to he pet store and buy two florecent bulbs to fit the sockets and pout them in i heard it brings out the color and i dont care about algea if its noit bad for the fish i can just leave it or whipe it off with my algea sponge.

i think your asking if you can use florescent lights in a screw in socket? nope. though if your getting a 55 gal they usually come with two canopy style florescent. those bulbs alone should brighten your tank but you can go a step further and pickup some power glo, aqua glo, or marine glo lights from the pet store. they're a little more pricey but totally worth it. you can go above and beyond that but it would make convicts glow any better....a marine glo would bring out the blues. try finding some lights that are already setup so that you can see the difference before you spend the cash.

Compact fluorescents would be perfect (the swirly kind). Just make sure they are the same size as your incandescent. That is no different than taking an incandescent bulb in a lamp, and replacing it with a compact fluorescent. The fluorescent tubes will not work, but the swirly ones will.
