No, one would have to be really dumb to take coke, especially if you're a pro athlete, and even more so if you are in the middle of propably THE greatest tournament in the world, and MH has never struck me as dumb.

Also it appears the WTA believe her to innocent, their statement focus' on MH career which they describe as "tremendous ".

The ITF, who are the ones accusing MH of taking cocaine don't seem to be having a lot of faith in their own argument.

And lastly, the media isn't convinced, and I believe it is their say that counts the most to the world. If a guy like Jon Weirtheim seems doubtful of her guilt, I'd say he has plenty of reason.

For all these reasons I believe MH is innocent, and that tennis has lost one of its greatest champions because of this f*ck up.

This thing is the world revolves around perception over reality. Everything we perceive about Hingis suggest that she is the type of person who could have used cocaine. If this allegation was brought upon a player with a cleaner image, no one would question her innocence. It's the same thing if Martina Navratilova was charged with using steroids. Based on her muscular build, most people would perceive that she did use steroids. If Monica Seles was charged, no one would question her innocence. So, in the court of public perception, Hingis is guilty. That's why she retired because she knows how the public thinks about her and even if she is innocent, too many people would not believe her and then she would have to go from tournament to tournament and have to answer the 'cocaine' question.

NO I don't. Honestly I believe we need to stop jumping to conclusions every time an accusation is made. If people have evidence, let htem present it, THEN I'll believe she is guilty.

*EDIT*
An answer below asked if we think the labs are screwing with athletes. Well here's a link to an interesting article:
http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news;_ylt=Ani8MUB9nPCcSUgAYdtYcnA4v7YF?slug=reu-dopinghingisitfdc&prov=reuters&type=lgns

The last line draws a parallel between Hingis and Rusedski who faced the same charges 3 years ago AND WAS EXONERATED. That tells me that the labs are either not 100% accurate or not 100% honest.

Another person asks why she retired if she wasn't guilty. Because she'd have to spend years fighting it. Since when a person has to prove his/her innocence?

Well, let's see..

"On Thursday former world number one Hingis announced her retirement from professional tennis after saying she had tested positive for cocaine, though she denied taking the drug."

I'm a bit confused since she said that she had tested positive for cocaine, but she denied it, and then she retires. I mean, if she's really innocent, why must she retire? By retiring, it's like she's just "walking away" from this scandal. If I were her, and if I'm innocent, I'd stand up for myself and do my best to prove that I'm not guilty, instead of just retiring.

Oh but I do hope that she's not guilty..

No, I don't think she is guilty of KNOWINGLY using cocaine, but it is possible she was sabotaged (i.e. someone laced her drink or urine sample). The only way to know for sure if she absolutely is innocent is to have a hair follicle test taken by an independent lab, but even if that turns out to be positive it still could be that she was given cocaine without her knowledge. I would be shocked if she turned out to be another Tara Conner (the former Miss USA who went to rehab for booze and coke)!!

No. I think there's something wrong with the testing procedures. There are a few other players I'd suspect but not Martina.

It's a tough one. I hope they do further testing to determine for sure if she is guilty or not. I think she should not have retired because it makes her look guilty.

I don't know thats tough to say. She might be guilty or she might not be. I think she could be guilty if she's announcing her retirement and she also said she was retiring because she didn't want to deal with people bugging her about this.

I don't think she's guilty. She's just irritated and very upset about these rumors. I think she retired because she doesn't want her legacy and her achievements in her great career to be overshadowed by this scandal.

Thanks for question and God Bless...
