What reasons do artists give as to WHY they create what they do - especially 'conceptual' art?

I'm not saying that their work is unworthy - but surely they still have a reason other than because they can?

How do you express yourself then... or do you wonder if you really are an individual...?
Sometimes pictures last longer in the observers mind than a few words, a sculpture lasts longer... the point is artists express a wonderment that words too easily forget... but that is a romantic view of art, what about political art... why should we be restricted to expression only through words and actions... you tell me!
And conceptual art, how many people understand, let alone express, a concept in any form?

I don't know why they WOULD have to justify things, it's a creative venture and nobody has to justify what comes out.

Does a writer justify their novel? Does a cook have to justify their new creation? Nope. Artists don't have to either.

Usually if someone feels the need TO justify what they made, they're responding from an insecurity in themselves. The good artists who have experience behind them know that nothing needs to be explained.

Why do artists even need to justify their work? They are artist. Let them create for christ's sake. Their work is done to let us interpret it, whether good or bad.
