It sounds like a good idea on the surface. But how do you define an immigrant? And don't you think it'll just give morons like the BNP more 'reason' to bash immigrants, by labelling them troublemakers? Overall I think it'd be self-defeating.

I remember this happening, but it turned out to be a waste of time and money - It cost the city $5,000 bucks, which they in turn made the Mexicans pay. Their businesses were the only ones that shut down. Everything else went on as usual, and it didn't change a thing. Everyone here hates the illegal Mexicans and I don't think that will change anytime in the near future.

As far as legals, that's a different story, but these illegals make me sick. They're driving our streets with no license, thus no insurance. When they drink & drive and kill someone, the only punishment they get is getting deported back to Mexico. They live off of our welfare system, don't pay taxes, and have a stinking slew of kids . It's not them taking the jobs that bothers most people, it's the things i just named. Basically, they're taking the jobs nobody else wants here.

I used to volunteer for the county during Christmas time - Christmas Coalition - to give underpriveleged kids Christmas presents - not anymore - its' all Mexicans. They come in and take up all the donations because they 'll have 15 kids - then our local kids don't get anything. It's gross.
These people are already working tax free, getting foodstamps, welfare checks, living for free in HUD houses and then they come in and take our kids gifts.

They've made it impossible to rent a house in our neighboring towns because the rent has gone so high, a normal family cant afford it. They'll rent a 2 bedroom , piece of crap house to 5 Mexican families and charge them $1000 a month. And I have lots of realtor friends who say they have taken the illegals to look at rental property and they actually stand there and count out how many matresses they think they can fit on the floor - and that's not a rumor! its the truth!

They've brought in alot of body lice and hair lice to our kids at school. They have brought staph over here. They're just not clean people. We had a little Mexican girl that had long thick hair full of lice - she gave it to everyone in her class. While all the other parents were spending all weekend & about 100 bucks a kid trying to get rid of it, the Mexican girls' mom wouldn't get rid of her kids lice - the girl came back to school and gave it to them AGAIN! It got to the point where they had to get the bus driver to get off the bus to check her head before she would let her on the bus!! ugggghhhhhh!!!!

I guess i'll stop here, i could go on all day!

Stupidest idea I've heard in a in a long while.
What do we need more for ?
We have too many as it is and the benefits system and NHS couldn't cope with more.
There must be places in the World that are totally empty because they are all over here.

I understand what you are saying and I think we could get along fine with zero immigrants.

i don't know that one day of an immigrant boycott will make an impact on the opponents of immigration. my friend lives in houston, tx, which has a very large immigrant population. do you know what she learned that day? she said that there was virtually no traffic on her way to work the day of the boycott because so many immigrants stayed home. she saw this as a glowing bonus, not a bad thing. and, since the boycott was announced, many companies simply scheduled other workers to come in who typically might have had that day off. for any boycott to be effective, there must be a sustained, consistent refusal to participate. in this case, the immigrants could only boycott for a short amount of time, because they needed the american economy (and money) as much as we need them. i agree that immigrants are crucial to our economy, but a one-day boycott won't prove this.

No we should not- I could not bear a day without a visit to my local muslim bath house- the beards on some of those men makes me sneeze from my tradesmens- but they provide a service.

Sounds like a great idea! I don't begrudge immigrants that work and contribute to the country a bit. It's the ones that don't - and then complain about discrimination - that get me.
The majority came here for a better life and prospects and fully integrate with our way of life - I hve many immigrant friends :)

I think the native British people should boycott work for one day to make the government realise how much they are needed. Perhaps Labour would stop treating them like a cash cow and show them more respect.

It had no impact on everyday lives. All it accomplished was to make some people more aware of the problem of illegals here in the US. And it cost them money to lose work or close their business . So feel free to waste time and money.

I don't know where you are but here in TN (U.S.) we dindn't notice a thing different on May 1. I repair and program machines in factories and it seemed like any other day to me.

Go ahead and strike, illegals, The free market will replace you in a blink. Have a nice day.
