very easy, about an hour max if your handy.most dishwashers are the same size, but measure anyway. shut your water off to the machine. shut the electric off to the machine. for the neat step you'll have to lay down on the floor. remove the bottom kick panel's usually 4 phillips screws. proceed to unscrew the water line. remove the electical box cover, 1 screw, then disconnect the electrical line. once that is done you need to open the dishwasher door to remove 2 screws that hold your dishwasher to the countertop & you micht have to adjust your leveling screws/ legs. dont forget to remove the drain line connected to the waterpump.then remove old unit & your ready to install the new one.just follow these instructions & go backwards... have fun..

It's not all that difficult, but you do need to make some plumbing and electrical connections. If you're comfortable doing that, you can probably do it.
First, measure the space several times, like the first person said. Get height, width, and depth. Most dishwashers are built to a standard size, but it doesn't hurt to be sure. The dishwasher you buy should have installation instructions. You should be able to follow these in reverse to get the old one out.
Make VERY sure that you turn off the electricity to that circuit, and the water supply to the dishwasher, too. Otherwise, at the very least you'll have a mess. You may also learn to do the 60 hertz dance.

You've received great advice. Plan on it being an all day job if you've never done it before. As has been said MAKE SURE YOU MEASURE YOUR OPENING! And I mean height and width.
Use NEW materials. Don't use the old stuff even if it looks OK. (Except the electrical connection - you can probably reuse that).Make sure all power and water is off. Double check the power because I have heard of a diy'er getting electrocuted doing a dishwasher because he was standing in water and touched a live wire.
Now, plan on a day of fun. You will learn something and probably blow your stack a few times but you will save some $$ and feel good when you're done.

The previous answer with detail is basically correct with a couple of exceptions, never take an electric panel off of an old appliance without cutting the breaker off first. Some dishwashers have a plug like you would plug into the wall and others are hard wired with wire nuts under the front facia panel. If over the years any of the connections have chafed and are now touching bare metal or could touch bare metal you can get a good jolt. Second, it is far easier to remove the drain from under the sink first, sometimes by doing this you allow yourself a little more room to move the old unit out.

If your comfortable removing the old unit you will be able to install the new one.measure your opening several times before you buy the new unit or you'll be in the cabinet business too.
