There is a story of King Vikramaditya. Once up on a time all planets wen to him and asked him to judge who was the best and who was the lowest in the categories. It was almost an impossible task. So Vikramaditya worked out a trick in which he does not have to say any thing. He kept look alike thornes for all and asked them to take their sit on the thorne of their choice. All were sitted on different thornes. After that Vikramaditya told that look at the bottom of your sits and you will get the answer. When looking at the bottom of all the thrones they found different metals, from very precious like Gold to the cheapest and black metal like iron. It was understood that the one who sat on the thorne with iron is the lowest one. And unfortunately it happened to be Bhagavan Shaneeshwara. So he got very furious and told Vikramaditya that he will soon understand who is the strongest one. After that King Vikramaditya had to suffer a lot in the Dasha of Bhagavan Shaneeswara. He lost his kingdom. He lost his hands. He had to face the worst situations in life. At the end of the Dasha Bhagavan Shaneeshwara Blessed him with all the happiness as Vikramaditya had faced all the adversities in the most virtuous manner because Shaneeswara Bhagavan is the God of Juastice. Vikramaditya also accepted his mistake. From this story, people have derived that bringing iron at home on Saturday, Shanee Vaar - the day of Bhagavan Shaneeshwara, it is not good. It brings bad luck as it brought to Vikramaditya.

I don't know, but apparently we (Hindus) aren't supposed to eat meat on Tuesdays. I honestly have no idea about this stuff. I'm not superstitious, but my mother is, and that's all I know. Oh, yes, and I think there's something about not being able to wash laundry on Wednesdays? Or it's on some specific holiday. I can't remember. There's tons of superstitious stuff in the Indian culture that I don't understand and therefore don't even bother to follow.

I have not come across such hard and fast rule forbidding purchase of Ion on Saturday. But however it is said those who have Sani Dosha gift Black things, like black cloth, black Til, Irons materials, in order to get relief from Sanieshwara. So people have this dosha do not buy Black things on Saturday, as this day is for worshiping Sanieswara. -
