I just found out from Yahoo answers that there are a number of milk ducts that emerge in a woman's nipple, not just one hole. But then one person seemed to be saying that milk ducts emerge from the whole area of the nipple. I thought it was just from the end face of the raised teat part of the nipple. I was thinking that person was probably wrong. Do the sides of the teat or the nipple area around the teat also have milk ducts emerging from them? Or is it generally one way and maybe there are also exceptions for some women?

from personal breastfeeding experience my milk only came out of the 'face end of the teat/nipple" and not the the sides or aereola. there are several small holes in which they come out of but its not all the way around and to the base of the nipple. more the top third of it if that makes sense.
I suppose there could be exceptions.
hope that helps!

You are correct. The milk ducts occur throughout the breast but only emerge in the tip of the nipple, not all over the areola. However, I have heard that if a woman has had her nipple pierced, then milk can come out of the piercing holes at the sides too!

no
i used to wander that too but the person that answered the question you read was right

The breast is kind of like an orange on the inside, with all diff sections, and as the baby milks the breast it kind of seeps out the pores

there a loads of ducts all over, the main ones that can squirt out in a stream are in the centre, but there are lots, some work better than others, there are loads all over and milk does come out of them, but not in a strong stream like the ones in the centre. so not like a bottle teat that only has the one hole in it.

u r right everyone is diff, and so some people can squirt it to the other side of the room, and some are lucky to get any out at all, but ther are definately loads of ducts, all those ripples are them, u can see it, but some are more effective than others. so some u can see it come out of,and sometime u know its comming out, but not sure where from, because it just seeps through.
but when u use something like a pump, u can really see it.

i hope this answers your question, and that it makes sense!

Milk ducts are on the nipple only (the teat part). The rest of the darker area is called the areola.

I don't actually know the answer to your question, but I wanted to ask you to NOT call a woman's nipple a teat...it just feels so wrong.
