I'm 20 have had my period for 8-10 years now and my period has always been long and heavy but right now its ridiculous. my period started 2 weeks ago was extremely heavy last week end (over 3 oz in 3 hours in the evening) then lightened up this week then got really heavy again tonight (2 oz in under a 1/2 hour) (I know the oz because i use a mestrual cup now instead of tampons)

but before i would sometimes go through super plus tampons in under 15 minutes for a few hours its really iritateing

i havent had a docters visit in 2-3 years and do not have my medical recors i'm thinking about going to the doctors but don't know what type of info they would want me to have or what info would be good for me to have so i can get a clear diagnosis

If you have a copy of a calendar or some other source where you track your periods I would recommend taking that with you to the doctor.

The doctor will ask about how long you have noticed this heaviness and if you are having any other symptoms with it. They will probably check your iron levels to make sure that anemia is not an issue (anemia has to do with low iron levels). They will also probably check your thyroid because sometimes problems with a woman's period can be an indication of a thyroid problem.

They will also ask about how often you change your tampons.

If the primary care physician says about going to the gynecologist they can fax over the notes to them about the visit to help the gynecologist figure out what other leads to take.

If you have other questions for me please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time.

When I first got my period it was exactly like you described. If you're not already on birth control, I suggest it as an option because it does have many advantages other than preventing pregnancy. The right pill can also make your periods lighter and also reduce cramps (if that is also a problem). I would highly recommend going to see a gynocologist about what might be right for you to take.

Get to the phone and make an appoinment NOW! That isn't normal by any standards and sounds as if could be endometrial polyps, nothing dangerous, but not to be left alone too long.

You should go to the doctor, and get birth control. It will stop your periods, and give you a small amount of periods a year. There will be light - medium spotting between periods. Birth control would be a good option for you.

Wish you well, cya.
