I don't know about a company, but your electronics outlet should have a computer program that allows you to hook a VCR up to your computer to copy off the video, edit what you want and copy it on a DVD or CD. It costs about $100, but it can be used for all of your VHS conversions. The one I have is about 2 years old, so there might be newer ones out there that do even more.

I don't know where CA is, but here in London, they do this at most digital photo printing labs like the ones by Kodak.
I recently had my graduation tape transferred to a DVD for a bargain.

if you have a video/dvd player
or one of each
you can play it on the tape player and recprd it at the same time with the dvd player

to convert a VHS to DVD, you need a WinTV video card. Play the tape into the computer, record it, burn to DVD

have you ever offered a video recorder and a dvd recorder, in case you have,, why dont you hook up the video participant to the dvd recorder so which you will checklist the your vhs tape to dvd your self, you wont injury the tape except its previous and brittle
