I have been having horrible heartburn and acid reflux since I've been taking birth control. It is making me feel so sick and nauseated to the point I took a pregnancy test this morning to be sure it wasn't morning sickness. The test turned out negative.

I believe the heartburn is also making it difficult for me to breathe sometimes. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Also, is this common with all birth control? If it is, I just can't take this stuff anymore. I am currently taking Loestrin, but after I finish this pack, the doctor is going to start me on Ortho Tricyclin (sp?). I had called to let her know I've been having breathing problems after taking it (I had asthma as a child and thought it was aggravating it). She wants me to try this one for a month to see if my breathing improves, but if it's the heartburn, I don't know what I'll do.

Also, before you're rude and say, "You shouldn't be having sex." or something to that extent...I am married.

I was once on Loestrin and I had bad side effects from it like depression, body pain, lots of water retention, nausea etc. I had to switch from it to another. It's been awhile since I've taken the b.c. pills, but I do remember having had acid reflux and heartburn all the time. I asked for a prescription acid reflux medication from my doctor and it helped. I had to take them as long as I was on the pills. If you can't get a prescription, then you can buy over-the-counter Zantac, Prilosec, Pepcid, or Axid to treat your heartburn and acid reflux.

I really feel for you....i have had the same trouble, from about 23 weeks (im 37 now and still suffering). The heartburn makes me physically sick and it is awful! Milk is one of the worst things you could have, the first night i tried that and was even worse a couple of hours later....it figures really though because milk contains fat and anything with fat in will exacerbate the problem. I have ranitidine from the Dr, they are effervescent and very good, i just have one in the morning and one night. I also use the gaviscon double action strength...(the normal one didnt help at all) and i avoid the mint gaviscon although some ppl swear by peppermint, this made it worse for me. I know it is hard but try not to eat too late at night, i have been craving white chocolate on an evening and i keep having to stop myself! Not long now though and i know it is a miserable time.... Try laying on your left side when you go to bed, keep propped up as much as possible too and that helps to reduce the reflux. Nowhere will sell you any medication other than gaviscon so you will have to get it fromyour dr. Another thing that can help is icy water....i know youhave tried water but perhaps keep some in the fridge and then use all three together. I honestly know where you are coming from tho, i too am sick of feeling sick/being sick and everything else. Mine hasnt gone off even tho baby is fully engaged and i am just waiting to go. i never got this with my daughter but i am having a boy this time, just think, he might have a lot of hair lol :-) Kepp you chin up and rest when you can, you havent long to go now! :-) Take care and let me know how you get on...ss i have written a book lol! xx
