Seriously. Is there a point? Or do people just live for pleasure? Hedonism? IS that the point? To have as much fun as possible before you die? To leave the world a better place? To destroy as much as possible? lol.

What's the point in this , and what's specifically YOUR point in life?

Biologically there is no point. We're born by chance and luck, survive, and then eventually die. Our point biologically is just to sustain life and reproduce.

Spiritually, it's to try to reach nirvana or get to places like heaven/hell.

Modern life wise it's to get as much money as possible, and live as much as possible and get the most "toys," and have sex as much as possible, I don't know.

We've hit a strange era where we've modernized everything so much it's Jetsons-ville, minus the flying cars.

Is this a good thing? Well, the technology rocks but we still have ALL the downfalls of primitive humanity. Jealousy, hate, lust, greed, evil, etc. Same problems, newer toys.

I know its too much to ask, you know, to think abstractly, and critically, but if you can take a second of your time, and rise above yourself and your own life, and try to ponder why the hell do we bother every day. I mean, it's probably So routine and normal that you don't even think twice about it.

But, try to. Do you even care? about the point of life? Or do you just go on day to day like a pre-set bot? lol.

Man is born, he suffers and he dies. Woman too.
The thing to do is enjoy your ever so brief period of awareness before succumbing to the nothingness of eternity.
So, if you need a mental crutch, use religion, if you don't, look out for as much enjoyment as you can.
Appreciate the good things, turn away from the bad ones, as you would define them.
Chill out. Enjoy. Savour.
And good luck to you.

I think you have made some good points here. Science and men do not have the answers. As a matter of fact, it seems that they have done a pretty good job of making a big mess out of everything.

God created everything in perfect order. And, everything God created is living, and can reproduce. New stars are born, and old stars die. The universe is growing and expanding. Science says someday the universe may retract and be reborn. And, what about life here on earth? Think of all the animals, trees, shrubs, and man. Everything God created is living and can reproduce! What an engineering masterpiece.

Man has engineered and constructed items to numerous to count. But, can you think of even one thing that man has created that is living? What has man engineered that can reproduce? Oh, your answer is that man can clone a sheep, or a calf. Where did the cell come from? I would love to wake up some morning and see a litter of baby John Deere lawn mowers in my back yard. Fat chance!

And speaking of chance, what is the chance that you would find even one non-living thing that was created by chance? Do you think you might find a cell phone, or a lap-top, or for that matter, even something as simple as a lead pencil taking its first breath on a rock next to a sulfur spring? Ya, sure you would.

God has a plan. God has the answers you're looking for. He will fill your life with hope, with joy, and with peace. Are you happy now? What do you have to lose? Read your Bible. Pray for guidance. God will show you the way. God loves you more than you'll ever know.

I have listed a couple sites that you might be interested in. Read about the journey. And, God sends a letter personally to you.

God is good all the time, and all the time God is good.

this is a deep question for yahoo ...

I'm constantly adding to what I think the point of life is, but as of now i've come to the conclusion that we are all here to help others. That philosopshy works with any religon or lack of. True we are nothing but a tiny speck in space and time (the Planet Earth has about 5 billion more years before our sun burns out) so it would seem like we as individuals are pointless. On the contrary, humans as far as we know, are the only creatures to evolve to the point where we know the history and theory of how we came to be. That alone makes us special. Jealousy, greed, lust .... all of those things stand in the way of helping other people but I think that we only hone in on those bad things. Humans are also compassionate, caring, giving and sympathetic. Without all of those ancient problems we wouldn't grow as people, we wouldn't have the opportunity to show compassion and help, life would be easier but much more boring, I think then life would be pointless.

I'm a Christian btw but I tried to water what I think the point is to match anyone's beliefs. I hope this helps you some. I believe that questioning this kind of thing challenges our mind and when we do come up with some answer we feel that much more confident about it. Keep searching.

I don't beleive that there is, or has to be a point to life. Many of the answers you have had to this question saying otherwise I feel, are from people who turn to a releigion because their own frail makeup will not let their brain accept this fact.

Animals are alive, they do not go around helping one another or try to make the world a better place. They do not go around wasting countless hours building strutures and fighting one another over a hazy beleif that their imaginary future when they are dead will be oh so much better because they have backed one side and their neighbour has backed a different side
They do as we do, that is eat as often as they can, try to find shelter, have the old doo-de-doos as often as they can and normally with as many partners as they can. And of course they fight off any threat that they perceive may affect any of the above.
Difference is when a loved one of ours dies we find it so hard to accecpt and so this is where releigion get the old foot in the door, whereas a rabbit sees his baby crushed into the tar-mac by a tesco lorry and just carries on eating before banging out another one at the first given chance.

Try to enjoy the so few sunny hours you have left .

You've obviously put some thought into this.

The word, "point" refers to purpose.

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell

So, if you really are asking why you came into existence, then you are assuming your Creator exists.

Otherwise, you're just asking how we can cope with a purposeless, meaningless, pointless existence. The answer here is that we have to trick ourselves into a feeling that we do have purpose. As you say, "leave the world a better place", is an example. For such a thought is praiseworthy and our minds will conclude that if we're praised, then we must be fulfilling our purpose. It's all self delusion.

Christianity is not about reaching nirvana nor is it about heaven. Christianity speaks of a Creator who created us to be His sons and daughters in a relationship (or communion) of love that can begin right now. He put our need for purpose into our nature so that we would seek Him.

It is the Christian idea that we seek God and find Him by obeying His command to love our neighbor for where love is, there God is also. God reveals Himself through such experiences. The point is that God will transform us if we let Him.

the point of life is that God made no mistakes when he made you and me. He made us exactly as He wanted us to be and He gave us each individual talents so that we could use those talents to help others. We are not here for ourselves. We are supposed to reach out to the hurting ones in our world and teach them about Jesus. Get the book "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren and it will answer all your questions. Deuteronomy 14:2 "The Lord has chosen you to be His treasured possession." That is how important you are to Him. Each and every one of us. God's best to you.

My, aren't we a little arrogant and judgemental?

Most people are just doing the best they can, trying to be a decent person and have a little fun in the meantime. Each and every one of us has differing ideas about the point of life, so there isn't one simple answer.

Brilliant question. I also think like it. Wel I think we should always try to do our best to make the world a better place than what was before our birth. We should avoid addictions and bad company.

The point in life? Such a difficult question.

Just ask yourself instead. What have you been doing in life so far?

The things you don't like, change. The things you love, keep.

That's all there is to it.

love. not necessarily romantic or parental or anything like that. none of them yet all of them. only good comes from love.if you are full of love you will feel at peace and so will everyone around you it spreads like fire until its corrupted by greed or pride. if everyone was full of love what would the world be like? wonder what heaven is supposed to be like?
