Intel's Core2 Duo processors are still better, performance-wise.

AMD processors are still attractive because of its lower price and wide choice of motherboards. I tend to like the new AMD X2 5000+ Black Edition which has unlocked multipliers. It can be overclocked to perform like the X2 6000+ but at lower power consumption (runs cooler).

AMD's clock speed equals that of Intel. They also have faster FSB buses. That is not a big deal. The New Intel's have the same clock speed with a huge cache and some with high multipliers to overclocking.
Overall, Intel has the edge, but AMD has the better price.

If you are thinking about buying now, u might ant to wait.
the new intel chip will be 3Ghz quad core, with 12mb of L2 cache i think. That will be awesome.
