You hear so many stories of people rolling over and being crushed by the ATV itself.

Jim H is right the blame should be on the rider for accidents not the vehicle.
I rode one of those 3 wheeled Honda's for years and never had any problem because I was aware that there could be one if I rode out of control like many did. There were so many injuries and deaths with that one they made them stop building it.
I'm sure if you were that afraid of rolling over you could have a roll bar installed but then you are going to need a safety belt to keep you with in the roll cage and it would limit big time where you are going to go.
Much better to do like Jim said learn the ATV and wear the proper safety gear.

Jim H and Ray Y are right. I, myself, have ridden 3-wheelers for a long, long time (we still have a Honda 200X). I did happen to have a little roll-over on our old Honda 110, but that was definitely operator error, not a design flaw. Luckily, even thought I was wearing only a helmet, I was uninjured.

A racing Friend of mine wasn't so lucky. We (the sanctioning body) were racing at VCS in Danville, IL. I was a corner worker for this particular race, when 2 Quads got together, and sent both riders flying through the air. One guy went behind me, and the other landed at my feet (more or less). My buddy was the one that landed in front of me, and was crushed by his quad. He died on scene. Had those quads had roll cages, there is no doubt that the outcome would have been worse, in that the rescue workers that were there with me at that corner, would have been killed by the quad running them over, instead of them being able to move out of the way (because the increase in mass would not allow the quad to slow as fast as it did before it got to us). I still think about my buddy every day. At least He died doing what he loved......Racing!!!!

I trail ride, and race atv's when I can. Most injuries are when people do not wear proper safety gear. You see people without helmets going balls to the wall. That is stupid. any rider 16 and younger.....get your training.and wear your helmets. If you see my avitar, you will see i have my helmet on during an ice race here in Wisconsin. I also have a flack vest under my coat. I'm 40 now and crashing hurts alot longer now lol.

Maybe ATV manufacturers DON'T want to "invite" people to "use" them! -Afterall, the SAFEST ATV- never rolls...
