We started playing Halo 3 on my Xbox 360 Hi Def.
We noticed the colors were a bit off... So we looked around the menu for something to fix it.
We stumbled upon Initial Setup, selected english went to video settings and selected "1080p" And my screen went completely Beserk!
I restarted, and it was still in the same condition, after another restart it gave me a system failure error.

I don't know how to go about contacting Microsoft,

I hopped they would send me a new xbox 360.

It looks like you will be incapacitated for about a month, this is why you should go with PS3!

My boyfriend had the same problem. He had the box or some warranty paper that had come with his Xbox 360. You have to just do some searching, find the contact, and they should send you a new or atleast fixed on free of charge. Postage to send and recieve is paid for by Microsoft. I don't know how long the warranties are, so hopefully you haven't had it for too too long.

you will need to call them the phone number is 1800-469-9269 and you will need to tell the customer service what the problem is and hopefully they give you an reference number to send youre system back to them in the mail to them and my advice is writing the reference number down on a piece of paper and dont lose it and you will have to take the hard drive off the system before sending it back to them in the mail and good luck

If you have a general hardware failure (3 blinking red lights), your Xbox 360 warranty is extended for one year from date of purchase. For warranty information and instructions, see http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemsetup/xbox360/resources/warrantyupdate.htm
